Dated Wednesday Nov 14th – “Dear Lynda- Val will celebrate her 6th birthday this Sunday- 3 to 6 pm. Come up if you can. She will be happy to see you.” -Henry Miller 

In 1944, Henry Miller, seeking peace and isolation to focus on his writing, accepted an offer from novelist Lynda Sargent to stay in an unused servant’s room in her log cabin in Big Sur, California. This arrangement provided Miller with the solitude he desired, and he resided there for several months before finding a place of his own. Their relationship was professional, centered on their mutual literary pursuits.
