In 1944, Henry Miller, seeking peace and isolation to focus on his writing, accepted an offer from novelist Lynda Sargent to stay in an unused servant’s room in her log cabin in Big Sur, California. This arrangement provided Miller with the solitude he desired, and he resided there for several months before finding a place of his own. Their relationship was professional, centered on their mutual literary pursuits.
